The Reliance One team gathered to celebrate the wish that they granted to seven-year old, Aaron.

February 1, 2016

Auburn Hills, MI – Reliance One, Inc. was happy to welcome Brenda Moore and Mary Grace McCarter from the Rainbow Connection to our Headquarters last week. Brenda and Mary came by to thank us for our contributions to the Rainbow Connection and to show us what our sponsorship made possible.

This year, Reliance One was able to grant a wish to seven-year old Aaron. Aaron loves the Ninja Turtles, playing outside, reading, and shopping at Wal-Mart. Reliance One is proud to support Aaron’s wish of going to Disneyworld in Florida. We are told that he is very excited to meet all of the Superheroes and characters at Disney!

“We are so proud of our team for putting in the efforts to make this donation possible. We have had remarkable participation in all of our events this year – from wrapping gifts at Carson’s, to change wars, and jeans days, the support from our team has been inspiring,” said Kristen Latimer, VP of Administration and the Chairwoman of R1 Impact. R1 Impact is an initiative that was created to give back to the community and to develop and grow the employees of Reliance One through community service.

Feeding the Community One Backpack at a Time

backpack

January 22, 2016

Auburn Hills, MI – Reliance One, Inc. is proud to announce their sponsorship of  Backpack Night 2016 hosted by Shard Financial Services, Inc. and the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

Backpack Night is a project taken on by the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan which makes an effort to reduce child hunger, provide education to students on proper nutrition, and encourage healthy lifestyles. The program was created to offer additional support to children who rely on free or reduced-price lunches at school. It provides a backpack full of nutritious foods every weekend throughout the school year so that no child goes hungry. The number of children that are eligible for free or reduced lunch in Michigan is staggering. In Genesee County alone, there is a 55% eligibility rate.

The program states that childhood hunger is a community problem that the community can solve. There are many ways to help. A donation in support of the program is the best way to help the cause. A $100 contribution feeds a child every weekend during the school year. You can also get involved with local community schools and help bring the program to your local district or you could volunteer your services to help fill backpacks during the school day. For more information on the program and ways to help, please visit http://www.backpacknight.com/backpack-program/.

Reliance One employees and their families wrapped presents to raise money for the Rainbow Connection

Auburn Hills, MI – Reliance One teamed up with Carson’s at the Village of Rochester this weekend to make dreams come true. The team wrapped gifts in exchange for donations, which were collected to grant a wish for a child with a life-threatening illness through the Rainbow Connection.

This is the 3rd year that the Reliance One team has volunteered to wrap presents with plans of granting a child’s wish. “We are incredibly close to this year’s goal and we are overjoyed that we will be able to grant another wish this January,” said Kristen Latimer, Vice President of Administration and Head of Reliance One’s community involvement team, R1 Impact. Community service is a significant part of Reliance One’s culture. It allows employees to give back while strengthening team bonds. The motto that we follow is: ‘We’re here to make good things happen for someone else. We do that… and it all works.’

Reliance One Hosts First 5K Race

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

5k

Reliance One’s Vice President of Recruitment and Operations, Rob Wicker and his daughter Libby, starting the race out strong.

Auburn Hills, MI – On Sunday, October 11th, Reliance One hosted their first annual 5k Donut Dash to promote employee wellness and to raise money for the Rainbow Connection as part of our R1 Impact initiative.

The event featured a costume contest, first place prizes, and of course cider and donuts. Jennifer Petritis, Human Resources Coordinator, played a large part in the planning of the event. “I was extremely impressed with the turnout at this event. We exceeded our fundraising expectations and participants were able to reach personal goals by completing the race alongside of colleagues and family. I am looking forward to a 2nd Annual 5k Donut Dash!”

Reliance One started R1 Impact in 2013 to make a difference in the communities that we work in while developing and growing personally and professionally. Last year, Reliance One employees raised enough funds to sponsor a wish for the Rainbow Connection which sent a young girl and her family on a dream trip to Walt Disney World.

R1 Impact would not be possible without the generosity of everyone who continuously participates in Reliance One’s fundraising events.  Thank you to everyone who coordinated and participated in the 2015 Donut Dash 5k. If you would like to know more about upcoming events this year, follow us on Facebook for updates!

Executive Team - Day of Service

August 11, 2015

Auburn Hills, MI – The Reliance One Executive Leadership Team began their day of service with a walk through history as Roy Hoelscher, Volunteer Director, shared the inspiring story of how the Capuchin Soup Kitchen program came to Detroit. Roy has been serving the Detroit Community for over 40 years; he is dedicating his life to serving others. He shared the beautiful story of his daughter, 1 of 12 adopted children, who serves our country. There is no doubt that her morals and values are rooted with the passion and drive that Roy brings to light.

“The Soup Kitchen got its official start during the Great Depression of 1929, a period of devastating national poverty that caused the poor of this Detroit community to knock on the monastery’s back door asking for bread.” (www.cskdetroit.org) The Reliance One Team is challenging everyone to find time to volunteer. Kristen Latimer, Vice President of Administration reflects, “Everyone has been through a time in their life when the odds seem against them. People need a strong support system and help from the community to make it through. I shared the experience with my children and they are eager to volunteer their time now.”

“If you want to volunteer at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen we ask you to bring three important things with you: a willingness to work hard, an open and positive attitude, and a smile. We can promise you that you will work hard, have some fun, and learn a great deal about yourself and your fellow human beings.”

Having a “Can Do” Spirit

September 12, 2014

Auburn Hills, Mich. – Since the launch of Reliance One’s R1 Impact – Through Serving Others, we’ve continued to look for more ways to get involved within the community, and in doing so, we came across a great service! We want other local businesses to know about Tyler’s Bottle Service.

April Rheingans, Employee Relations Coordinator at Reliance One, saw a posting on Facebook and immediately knew that we needed to partner with Tyler’s Bottle Service. “I knew as soon as I read his story that we had to team up with Tyler and use his services,” said Rheingans. She followed up by saying, “Tyler makes cashing in your returnables very easy – simply send him an email and he will respond with a day and time to schedule your pickup. He will come to your home or place of business and count your returnables on site and give you your cash that day!”

Tyler is very professional and polite, and we look forward to supporting his business! Please take the time to look at the service Tyler is providing for the community.
He is a recent graduate of Michigan Career & Technical Institute, a trade school for individuals with disabilities. With a true American “Can Do” Spirit, Tyler has started his own business.

About Tyler’s Bottle Service

“Hate dealing with all those sticky cans and bottles that need to be returned? Hate feeding them into the return machines one at a time? Did you have a party and are over-run with returnables? We have the solution! Tyler’s Bottle Service will pick up and return those Michigan refundable bottles and cans in Oakland County, Michigan, with other counties upon request.” – https://www.facebook.com/#!/TylersBottleService

The Fruits of Labor

July 31, 2014

A team from Reliance One recently spent a day at the Forgotten Harvest of Southeast Detroit. Matt, Ognen, Jen, and Max spent the day picking summer squash that was eventually distributed to families in the Detroit area. The task was daunting as there were eight rows of squash that stretched over a half mile long. The team pulled together to pick the squash off the vines, as well as pull up the plants so that the fields could be reseeded the following day.

“Volunteering was a great way to bring our team closer together while also impacting others. It was fun, but it was also hard work. It really made us appreciate the people that are out there every day making a difference in other’s lives,” said Matt Van Norman, Account Manager at Reliance One. The team said that working on the farm was without a doubt physically taxing; however, the optimism of the entire volunteer group made for an enjoyable day of service.

About Forgotten Harvest:

The mission of Forgotten Harvest, founded in 1990, is to relieve hunger in the Detroit metropolitan community by rescuing extra, prepared and perishable food and donating it to emergency food providers. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to 280 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area.

Helping to Build a Future for Others

June 11, 2014

Last Friday, a team from Reliance One spent the day with Habitat for Humanity helping to build a home in Dearborn, MI. Adam, Chris and Andrew were trained on how to install a roof and then were immediately put to the test with other volunteers. “Our group had to work together as a team in order to put the roof on this house,” said Jimmy Martinez, Technical Recruiter at Reliance One. “It is a very skilled trade that we had to learn in a short amount of time.”

When the group initially volunteered to help out the organization, they were not informed of the project that they would be assisting with. The employees of Reliance One are very successful in their current positions in the office however, working to help build houses is something that they have to work really hard at in addition to spending time learning new skills. Fortunately, the group was very eager to learn and then apply their assistance in any way possible.

Adam Lipski, Account Executive, shared with others that they had the opportunity to go to lunch with volunteers that they were working with. He said the teams had a great conversation about the importance of helping others and the value in working hard to get where you want to go. Lipski explained that, “The eventual owner of the house was there helping us, so there was extra pressure to make sure we were doing a great job.” The team said that Habitat for Humanity was a rewarding experience and they were grateful to be able to give back to the community through service.

About Habitat for Humanity:

Planting Seeds for Others

May 29, 2014

Last week, a group from Reliance One spent a day at Forgotten Harvest of Southeast Detroit. Kevin, Sean, Ramzy, and Andrew arrived at the farm early Wednesday morning and began by fixing the tarps that covered the seed beds which stretched across the 300 yard field. After they finished this task, they planted long rows of squash and zucchini. “It was some of the hardest physical work I have done in a long time, but I’m so thankful my company allows us the opportunity to give back in the community,” said Sean Hill, Senior Technical Recruiter.

To end their day, they made sure the plant beds were fixed accordingly, the tarps were secure, and the field was cleaned up. “I never really knew how much Forgotten Harvest impacted families. We learned that they saved over 1 million pounds of food last year which otherwise would have gone to waste, and their goal for this year is 1.7 million pounds,” said Kevin Gay, Senior Account Executive. “It was such an eye opening and humbling experience, and I’m so thankful I was able to donate my time to such a great organization.”

Reliance One Team Walks for a Cause!

May 19, 2014

Auburn Hills, Mich. – On May 18th, Reliance One participated in the 2014 Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo. The walk was held by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, and R1 Impact was extremely excited to be a part of this year’s walk. There were over 4,000 attendees and lots of entertainment, such as Radio Disney, activity stations for the children, and of course, the main attraction – all of the animals at the zoo!

“Our first R1 Impact walk was a success. It was great to see everyone enjoying the beautiful day with their families and supporting this cause,” said April Rheingans, Employee Relations Coordinator at Reliance One.

“It was a fun and well-planned event, and we’re proud of the Reliance One employees’ generosity to the NKFM. The R1 Impact team will be back again for next year’s walk,” said Rheingans.
