Think Like A Coach

By: James Paquette – Co-Founder / Owner

Imagine that you have just landed your dream job and you finally feel that you can focus on your career.  You meet the team and the first few weeks fly by. After training you find yourself struggling and request a meeting with the manager. The manager can choose to either coach this person or react in a way that discourages them. This scenario is a common workplace issue that occurs when hiring new talent. Training is critical to the individual’s success – follow up must occur for the entire duration of the team member’s tenure.

In less than one month, Reliance One is dedicating a whole day to Manager Training. In the end, our employees will be focusing on these key attributes of being a good coach. “You don’t win with X’s and O’s. What you win with is people.” Joe Gibbs

  • Be empathetic to those around you
  • Be selfless by putting your team first
  • Be a good communicator
  • Listen to your team for advice – you are not all-knowing
  • Define a realistic career path for your team members

Many people are placed into a management role because they have demonstrated great performance. We must shift that dynamic and help them to become a successful manager by providing them the right coaching and training. People are the foundation of our business and they need to know that we care.

Predicting the Future – 17 years and running

future3December 10, 2015

Auburn Hills, MI – Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying “the best way to predict the future is to create it” and that is exactly what Reliance One is doing. The staffing and recruiting firm proudly celebrated 17 years of solving staffing challenges and providing employment to hundreds of people.

In 1998, James Beath and James Paquette founded Reliance One, Inc. The business partners launched their recruiting services from a residential basement in Flint, MI and through hard work and dedication, the company has now grown to over 600 employees.

“The staffing industry is gaining incredible momentum right now and we are excited to be a part of this extraordinary growth,” said James Beath, co-founder. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, “approximately 211,000 jobs were created in November,” leading to an increase in demand for employees. Reliance One is taking advantage of the economic pressure and is diligently working to fill their clients’ openings.

“We have a team of passionate team members who work hard every day to put people to work and create bright futures for themselves, their contractors, and the company,” said James Paquette, co-founder. Reliance One is stronger than ever at their 17th anniversary. The company continues to be committed to providing solutions that enable our customers to meet the evolving workforce demands and solving staffing challenges.

James Paquette – Vice President / Co-Founder

James “Jim” Paquette started Reliance One in 1998 bringing years of business experience combined with a passion to create a company that sets the bar in the staffing industry.  Working in Business – to – Business sales before he cofounded Reliance One, he consulted with several different companies within a variety of industries, which provided strategic insight to operational effectiveness with a focus on customer service. Jim’s aspiration is to make working with Reliance One a unique experience for both clients and employees.

Focusing most of his attention on the employee side of the staffing industry, Paquette had a vision to change the way business was done. Jim pursued his goal to change operations; he introduced systems and processes that resulted in prompt follow-up and better communication between the employees and clients. Jim established a company that contract employees can proudly say they belong to and continues fostering his vision to ensure that his employees consistently “build teams” and surpass client expectations.

Paquette is a member of Toastmasters Michigan, which promotes continued learning and public speaking, and ITT Engineering Curriculum Advisory Board where he reviews the academic syllabus from an employer’s standpoint. He provides useful suggestions and amendments to the current curriculum, which relates back to the workforce.  A dedicated family man, Jim loves to attend his two kids’ sporting events and vacationing at the family cabin. Whether playing a game of golf or on his volleyball team, Jim’s competitive edge carries into all aspects of his life.
