“Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises”, this quote shaped the theme of Avondale graduate, Marisa Aiello’s college scholarship essay. Marisa talked about her ambitions to open up an Italian restaurant and feature her grandfather’s recipe for homemade bread; Marisa’s entrepreneur spirit gave her leverage over other candidates and helped her land the $1,000 scholarship. On Tuesday, December 18, 2012 she met with Reliance One President, James Paquette as he presented her with her check.
Reliance One partnered with Avondale School district to create the Avondale Education Foundation and make this scholarship possible. Dr. George Heitsch expressed his appreciation, “The community as a whole benefits when companies like Reliance One get engaged in the education of K-12 students. We applaud Reliance One for supporting the Avondale School District through the Avondale Foundation and congratulate Marisa on receiving the scholarship,” said Dr. Heitsch. In order to be eligible for the scholarship the student must reside in the Avondale School District, have at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to pursue a business degree, preferably with a focus in entrepreneurism, at an accredited college, university or other higher education institution.
Marisa will apply the scholarship toward her education at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She is currently pursuing a double major in business marketing and management and plays center on the school Volleyball team. After graduation she plans on making her restaurant dreams a reality, like the quote used in her essay Marisa will take every opportunity to make her goals come to life. The founders of Reliance One had the same mentality when they started their business in a residential basement and watched it become one of the fastest growing companies in Michigan. We know big things are in your future Marisa, best of luck from everyone at Reliance One!
