Executive Team - Day of Service

August 11, 2015

Auburn Hills, MI – The Reliance One Executive Leadership Team began their day of service with a walk through history as Roy Hoelscher, Volunteer Director, shared the inspiring story of how the Capuchin Soup Kitchen program came to Detroit. Roy has been serving the Detroit Community for over 40 years; he is dedicating his life to serving others. He shared the beautiful story of his daughter, 1 of 12 adopted children, who serves our country. There is no doubt that her morals and values are rooted with the passion and drive that Roy brings to light.

“The Soup Kitchen got its official start during the Great Depression of 1929, a period of devastating national poverty that caused the poor of this Detroit community to knock on the monastery’s back door asking for bread.” (www.cskdetroit.org) The Reliance One Team is challenging everyone to find time to volunteer. Kristen Latimer, Vice President of Administration reflects, “Everyone has been through a time in their life when the odds seem against them. People need a strong support system and help from the community to make it through. I shared the experience with my children and they are eager to volunteer their time now.”

“If you want to volunteer at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen we ask you to bring three important things with you: a willingness to work hard, an open and positive attitude, and a smile. We can promise you that you will work hard, have some fun, and learn a great deal about yourself and your fellow human beings.”

Looking for a Job?

February 9, 2015

Control what you can control!

At Reliance One we consult with our clients to solve their staffing challenges.  This consultative approach to our business takes a lot of time and preparation in order to deliver the desired results.   We work just as hard to advise and prepare our candidates with their career search.  As a job seeker, it is important to prepare yourself for the evolving market; the best way to do this is to control what you can control.

As one of Top 20 largest staffing companies in the metropolitan area, we guide and coach candidates to do the things they need to do to be successful in today’s job market.  We take pride in spending time with each candidate; the process usually starts with a close look at their resume.  We work with job seekers to inventory and take credit for all of their past experiences in their previous positions.  This requires the candidate to think about all of their employment history to ensure they are accounting for all past knowledge.  We then recommend the candidate to include this relevant content in their resume.

Once the resume is polished, we take a look to see what the candidate is doing to network with people that can help them.  This includes attending industry events, as well as, utilizing online networking opportunities.  Despite popular belief, there are industry seminars and networking groups in most every line of work.  Whether the career field is Information Technology, Finance or Engineering, there are groups with which to network.  By taking advantage of networking, it allows candidates to meet people currently employed in positions and industries where they are looking to gain employment.  Another great way to network is utilizing online social media tools, such as LinkedIn or Twitter.  These networking sites allow job seekers to connect with groups and individuals in the specific industry that they are looking to obtain employment.

If we have been able to arrange an interview for a candidate, the individual must understand there is a lot of preparation necessary in order to set them up for success.  The candidate should spend time going over their relevant work history and form correlations to the position for which they are interviewing.  This may include refreshing their knowledge of key skill sets the potential employer has listed as necessary for the position.

The next thing a candidate should do is research. They will need to research the company they are interviewing with, as well as, the individuals that are assigned to conduct the interview.   This may include, but is not limited to, going to the company website, using search engines to learn the latest news on the company, and searching social media sites to understand the audience.  This research will ensure the candidate is familiar with the company’s current forecast and will provide a deeper understanding of why the company is adding to their team.  In addition, through research the candidate may find a shared connection with the interviewees which may create opportunities to connect on a different level; you may have attended the same college or have similar hobbies.

The last thing we do is help the candidate prepare themselves for the interview.  There is a lot of emphasis on the first impressions for both our candidates and clients.  We coach our candidates and advise them to present themselves professionally – typically suits are appropriate; cleaned and pressed, as well as shoes that are business professional and polished.  Grooming and personal hygiene are also emphasized.  We encourage the candidate to practice their responses to commonly asked interview questions and feel comfortable explaining experience in previous positions. The candidate should also prepare some well thought out questions that are pertinent to the company and position for which they are interviewing.

We instruct and encourage our candidates to do all the things within their control to be successful in their job search.  There are plenty of things that we cannot control, but by making sure you have represented your experience to the best of your ability, networking with those in your industry and preparing for your interview opportunities, you will put yourself ahead of the other job seekers.

Supporting and Providing Comfort for Local Families

Reliance One founders, Jim Beath and Jim Paquette, presenting a monetary donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit.

Auburn Hills, MI – Last week, a team from Reliance One stopped into the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) of Detroit to present a monetary donation on behalf of their employees.  The donation was generated by various fund-raising activities and events throughout 2014.  The RMHC provides a home away from home for families of pediatric patients.  Annually, the house provides rooms for approximately 1,500 guests.

As we looked for local organizations to support, The Ronald McDonald of Detroit made perfect sense.  Employees of Reliance One have experienced, firsthand, the impact the RMHC can have on a family during a time of need.  “My five month old son was medevac’d for heart surgery, and my wife and I were overwhelmed by the support and care we received by the RHMC.  They allowed us to totally concentrate on our son’s wellbeing and not worry about the travel or accommodations,” said Jim Paquette, Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of Reliance One.

While visiting the RMHC last week, we learned some exciting news about an upcoming move.  Early in 2015, the RMHC will move from its original site at Children’s Hospital to its new home at 4727 St. Antoine, just one-half mile north, in the Hutzel Professional Building. Along with the move, the charity recently announced its first major campaign to raise $3 million over the next two years.

“Momentum in the D”

January 21, 2015

Auburn Hills, Mich.–Reliance One, a minority owned staffing and recruiting firm, was just ranked as the 20th largest (2013 Revenue) Staffing Firm in Metro Detroit by Crain’s Detroit Business.

Reliance One broke into the top 20 by increasing (2013) revenue by 36%.  The growth was fueled by strategic alliances with new clients and the opening of another office, located in Bingham Farms. In addition, Reliance One has hired a number of new team members which has helped meet the demand for our customers.

“There is a lot of momentum in Detroit, and our services are more in demand than ever,” said Jim Beath, Chairman and Co-Founder of Reliance One.  We partner with companies that are serious about hiring the right person at the right time.  This partnership allows us to put the right number of team members on our customers’ most critical job openings.  Companies are struggling to find the talent they need to meet their resource demands and unemployment is very low in southeast Michigan for experienced, technical professionals.  Our employees make the difference when it comes to providing great customer service and highly qualified candidates.

Reliance One is currently planning the opening of new offices in markets that are geographically located near current customers with plans of attracting new business.

Miles of Pain for Others to Gain!

Jen P April Santa Cycle (2)

Reliance One Joins Twisted Root at Santa Cycle

Auburn Hills, MI., Dec. 16, 2014

This holiday season Reliance One participated in the 1st Annual Santa Cycle Fundraiser at Twisted Root Yoga & Fitness. The event was held for 24 hours straight – it launched at 7:00am Friday, December 5th and finished at 6:00am Saturday, December 6th. The purpose of this event was to support a local Clarkston family in need. The funds were raised by asking riders to provide a donation and for the teams to come together and provide donations.

The Twisted Root, owned by Amanda and Rob Elosegui, put together the event at their studio where they have 10 spin bikes. Reliance One sponsored two teams and contributed over $600.00 towards the cause. Kristen Latimer, Vice President of Administration, teamed up with the facility to help expand the R1 Impact team. “Our wellness committee is always looking for opportunities to challenge the staff. We were thrilled to be involved with such a great cause and look forward to riding again next year,” said Latimer.

The total miles accrued for Reliance One riders were 813.9 miles – this was achieved by 26 participants. The miles totaled by the whole studio event for 24 hours were enough to get someone from Clarkston, MI to Las Vegas Nevada; approximately 2,030 miles!

Amanda and Rob are taking time this upcoming weekend to shop for the Clarkston family. The money raised for this local family of three children will be providing a complete holiday meal and gifts for the family for Christmas. As we draw near the holiday, the Impact team is looking forward to contributing to other causes.
